Located at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, Fort Monroe and the surrounding land have been a key strategic site throughout the history of the United States.

A stronghold of the Union Army during all of the Civil War, the site has been visited by no fewer than a dozen sitting and future US Presidents, including Lincoln. Today, you can tour the Casemate Museum and explore the history of the fort. The area also has miles of beaches, an RV camp, a fishing pier, and several restaurants.
